While in Tampa to promote high-speed rail projects, President Obama on Thursday said he supports measures to give gay and lesbian partners the same benefits as married couples. “At the federal level, one of the things that we’re trying to do is to make sure that partnerships are recognized for purposes of benefits,” he said. He mentioned hospital visitation rights, Social Security and pension benefits.
