Lithuanian Mayor Blocks GLBT Conference
Vilnius, Lithuania EU
Europe’s International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA Europe) is challenging the city of Vilnius, Lithuania in court after the mayor blocked one of its events. The gathering was scheduled as part of the group’s annual conference; set to begin tomorrow in the former communist country. Conference organizers say they chose to hold the conference in Lithuania to bring attention to the discrimination GLBT people face there. Vilnius mayor Juozas Imbrasas said he canceled the event because it posed a security risk.
