Shawn Woodward, a 37 year old carpenter, has been found guilty of aggravated assault in a high- profile gay-bashing against Ritch Dowrey at a Vancouver bar. The incident took place March 13 2009, as Mr. Woodward prepared to leave the Fountainhead Pub, a well-known gay bar. Witnesses testified that Mr. Woodward told them, after he punched Mr. Dowrey, that the victim had approached him and that he was not a faggot. Mr. Woodward did not deny hitting the victim, but testified that it was self-defense, after Mr. Dowrey touched his crotch.
