Texas Governor Rick Perry pressed a conservative social agenda at an appearance in New Hampshire, calling for the repeal of the state’s 2009 law legalizing same-sex marriage. Perry also praised efforts in the state to end funding for birth control and health services for low-income women provided by Planned Parenthood in the state. The comments were made late Friday at an event in Manchester sponsored by conservative activist group Cornerstone Action.

They call themselves “Safety In Numbers”, or “The S.I.N. Patrol.” The volunteer group’s primary function is to provide protection on the streets and sidewalks outside of Salt Lake City’s gay nightclubs. Beatings of gay men in Utah have made headlines in recent months. Most notably Dane Hall, who was assaulted outside of Club Sound in the early morning hours of August 26th. No suspects have been named or arrested in the incident.

The latest lawsuit that seeks to force New Jersey to recognize gay marriage will soon be going before a judge for the first time. State Superior Court Judge Linda Feinberg has scheduled a hearing for Friday on the state’s motion to have the suit dismissed. The state Attorney General’s Office says the matter is already settled.

A Christian university is asking its 200 employees to sign a ‘Personal Lifestyle Statement’ stating they are not gay. Anyone at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia, who does not sign the statement faces being fired. Don Dowless, president of the university, said the statement also requires staffers to reject premarital sex and adultery.

A federal judge heard arguments Thursday on whether a central Missouri school district should be barred from using Internet filtering software that has prevented automatic access to some websites with information on gay, lesbian and transgender issues. U.S. District Judge Nanette Laughrey made no immediate decision on whether to impose a preliminary injunction against the Camdenton School District at the request of attorneys for the American Civil Liberties Union. She also was considering the school district’s assertion that an unnamed student and several organizations that operate websites had no legal standing to bring the lawsuit because they had not suffered any harm from the district’s policy.

A Joplin teacher accused of making anti-gay comments on Facebook has been cleared. “We’ve investigated and found no wrong-doing on the part of the teacher.” Joplin Superintendent Doctor CJ Huff tells News Talk KZRG complaints were made about things high school math teacher Jim Whitney allegedly posted on Facebook. But apparently Whitney’s Facebook account was hacked. “It’s unfortunate when you’re dealing with social media and dealing with technology and the potential for people to get on to other people’s accounts and say things that shouldn’t be said.”

Chicago’s Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame is set to induct 11 individuals and four organizations at its 20th anniversary induction ceremony. The ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 9 at the Chicago History Museum. The individuals honored this year include a pioneer in early-20th-century popular music, a promoter of gay and transgender sports teams and an expert on promoting the health of gay youth.

If the Ultimate Fighting Championship has gay fighters, their boss believes they should emerge from the closet and not worry about it. “I’ll tell you right now, if there was a gay fighter in UFC, I wish he would come out,” UFC President Dana White said Thursday. “I could care less if there’s a gay fighter in the UFC. There probably is and there’s probably more than one.”

A shocking video of a gay student being beaten at Union-Scioto High School in Chillicothe, Ohio, has surfaced reports Channel 6 WSYX news. In the clip, which was filmed on a cell phone and then posted to Facebook, the attacker, who has not been named, can be seen waiting for the gay student, who wishes to remain anonymous, in a classroom.

A group of married gay current and former military personnel sued the U.S. government on Thursday, seeking equal recognition, benefits and the same support as married heterosexual couples who serve in the military. The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Boston says the government’s Defense of Marriage Act violates their constitutional rights and asks the military to recognize their legal marriages.

Three gay men say they were viciously attacked and beaten in separate incidents by men shouting anti-gay slurs last week in and near West Hollywood. Two of the attacks occurred in West Hollywood and the third took place just outside the city limits, police said. The Los Angeles Police and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s departments are investigating the beatings.
