Dr John Sentamu, the highest-ranking black man in the Church of England, was sent a number of offensive emails following his interview with The Daily Telegraph. His office forwarded the messages on to North Yorkshire Police, who are now investigating them as hate crimes. But it is not thought there is any threat to the safety of the 62 year-old, who on Monday attended the opening of General Synod, the Church’s governing body, as planned.
